Ground Rules

Here are a few guidelines that should help keep things cool for us as we attempt to discuss challenging topics.

1. Posts should address a single topic and be as defined as possible. This will help us from scope creeping, prevent such Homer-like epic posts.

2. I wouldn't be a stickler on it, but I would suggest that we may even want to call for a vote to move on if a topic is either thoroughly been discussed, doesn't seem to be changing anyone's minds, or if it's getting too heated.

3. Limit charged statements/phrases.  If the goal is to denote an idea, denote as objectively as possible. If explanation requires what could be charged, go the extra mile of explaining your purpose.

4. Throw a flag: If feathers are ruffled, respond back immediately with the opening line 'Timeout: Flag on the Play'.

  • Try to succinctly explain how you are feeling.
  • Ask for clarification if there is something that MAY be construed as offensive.
  • Keep the post as short as possible, and don't add any additional statements that may exacerbate the problem.
  • As a group, we should all commit to: If there is a Timeout, no one except the offended and offender communicate, following the 'short and to the point' communications in order to clear things up.
  • Once things are clear, the ruffled individual can call the game back into play.
